Thomas R. Mechler is a dedicated conservative leader recognized for decades of service to the Republican Party and the State of Texas. Appointed by Governors Rick Perry and Greg Abbott, he served nine years on the Texas Department of Criminal Justice board—five as Vice-Chair—and continues his work as a volunteer prison chaplain. A lifelong grassroots organizer since 1986, Mechler has held leadership roles from Alaska to Texas, including State Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas. In 2021, the Tulia Unit was renamed the Thomas R. Mechler Unit in his honor.
